DPP bails out Salima flood-victims, donates relief to 250 households

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) last Saturday donated relief items to over 250 households in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Maganga is Salima district.

The families were affected by the floods that rocked the lakeshore district recently rendering many house-hold homeless.

Speaking during the donation, leader of delegation Ben Phiri said as a party, they thought it wise to help those who were in dire need of food since they lost all their properties.

“As a party, we always believe in sharing whatever a little something we have with are friends who are in need regardless of where they come from or which party they belong. Unlike other parties which are fond of helping only those who belong to them, DPP is different, we believe in Malawi and its people first and politics later, we have to help each and until then, we will be able to move together as a country,” said Phiri

Phiri was accompanied by DPP central region director of women a Mai Makuta, Blue Professionals members from Lilongwe like Zita Namata and Chimwemwe Chipungu.

Speaking on behalf of the families, Traditional Authority Maganga said the donation came at a right time people had nothing in store for food.

“Since the floods, life has been not bearable for the people of this area, people have been suffering. DPP has shown maturity for visiting helping the people who are in dire need of different things regardless of party colors and the area they come from.

“As a chief, I have no control of who should lender a helping hand to a suffering colleague, we are all Malawians at first and parties come and go,” he said

DPP is the first opposition party to help those who suffered with the floods this year.
