THE 2013 UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (UEE)
The University of Malawi (UNIMA) and the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) are pleased to announce dates for the 2013 University Entrance Examination (UEE) as follows:
Registration: Monday, 25th March, 2013 and Tuesday 26th March, 2013 at the following venues from 7:30 a.m. on each day:
Mzuzu – Katoto Secondary School
Kasungu – Kasungu Teachers Training College
Lilongwe – Kamuzu College of Nursing
Ntcheu – Kings Foundation Secondary School
Zomba – Chancellor College Great Hall
Blantyre – New Covenant Ministries Church (Chimwankhunda Tent)
Examination: Wednesday, 27th March, 2013 from 7:30 a.m.
Candidates should note that Karonga and Luchenza will not be used as examination centers because a very small number of candidates had preferred to use these centers. Therefore, all candidates who had indicated either Karonga or Luchenza as their preferred centre are advised to report at Mzuzu and Blantyre centers respectively. Additionally, applicants are free to register and sit for the examination at any of the recommended centers.
Only candidates who have already applied through UNIMA and LUANAR and have paid the appropriate application fee shall be allowed to register and sit for the examination on the specified dates specified.
As was already communicated through this year’s advert for admissions, fresh applications shall not be allowed at the designated centers during the registration and examination days.
1. Eligibility for the University Entrance Examination
Candidates who wish to sit for the 2013 UEE should satisfy the following criteria:
a) Be holders of MSCE, IGSCE or other internationally recognised qualifications comparable to an ‘O’ level certificate with at least six credit passes including English Language obtained in 2012, 2011 and 2010. The following is the interpretation of O-Level/IGCSE letter grades for University of Malawi admission purposes: A*= 1; A = 2; B = 3; C = 5; D = 7; EFG = 8.
b) Applicants who failed to satisfy the university entry requirements in 2010 or 2011 but successfully improved their grades after resit in one, two, three or four subjects in 2011 and/or 2012 may use their supplementary statements for purposes of accumulating credits. Please note that applicants cannot use two independent certificates for purposes of accumulating credits, i.e. applicants who passed MSCE in 2011 and were awarded a full certificate and sat again MSCE in 2012 and obtained another full certificate cannot combine credits from the two independent certificates.
c) Candidates should have paid the appropriate application fees.
2. What to bring at the Examination Centre.
For purposes of registration, candidates must possess the following documents:
i) Original or certified copies of certificate(s) or statement of results. (Applicants with qualification from other countries should bring their original Certificates).
ii) MANEB Identity Card or any authenticated Identity Card, the ID should include a candidate’s photograph and the ID should be officially stamped and signed by the Headmaster/Headmistress of the Secondary/High School where they obtained there MSCE/0-Level qualification, or the District Education Management, or the District Commissioner or any Commissioner of Oaths. A Passport, a voter registration certificate or a valid driver’s Licence can also be used for purposes of identification. Applicants who do not have an authenticated Identity card shall not be allowed to sit for the university entrance examination.
iii) A recent passport size photograph which shall be retained by the University.
iv) A deposit slip/receipt certifying payment of an appropriate application fee.
3 Other Details
Applicants with any known disability are encouraged to inform the University Registrar of their status prior to the date of the examination so that they can be timely considered for exemption to write the UEE.
Candidates with ‘A’ Level, ‘AS’ Level, International Baccalaureate (IB) and the National Senior Certificate (NSC) are not required to sit for the University Entrance Examination.
Applicants who have attempted ‘A’ levels, ‘AS’ levels, NSC or the IB and did not meet the University of Malawi admission criteria for the same cannot use their ‘O’ levels for purposes of admission no matter how good they are.
The following groups of candidates are not eligible to sit for the University Entrance Examination:
• Candidates who are currently registered as residential or non-residential students with the University of Malawi or any other comparable tertiary institution such as Mzuzu University.
• Candidates who were once admitted to the University of Malawi or any comparable University/Institution of Higher Learning and were withdrawn on academic grounds.
