Rising crime rate worries Blantyre residents

Date:

A rise in criminal activity has prompted security experts to warn residents of Blantyre and surrounding areas to be on alert at all times.

This comes in the wake of increased criminal activity, the recent one being an armed robbery in which a businessman was ambushed at gunpoint on his way home along Blantyre’s Henderson Street.

In another incident, a businessman in Thyolo was on Monday night taken hostage from his home at gunpoint and released several hours later after the thugs robbed him of cash and jewels from his wife.

One of the experts, Mike Davis, who is managing director of Alphas Security Company, told the media “This is a broad issue, but briefly people have to take more care both at home and when moving around the town. It’s nothing to panic or get alarmed about, but you just have to take more care at this time when you have got an increase in crime rate.”

The police have on several occasions assured the city residents of intensified security.
