Plot to implicate Peter Mutharika over JB’s resignation letter saga fails, 2 arrested

Police headquarters in Area 30, Lilongwe have arrested two people for plotting to implicate Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) interim leader Professor Peter Mutharika in Joyce Banda’s disputed resignation letter.

The two Prophet Wells and Andrew Mughogho were captured at Halima Daudi’s office in Lilongwe waiting for Henry Mpofu who separately directed them to convene there for a strategic meeting.

Daudi is deputy agriculture minister and parliamentarian for Dowa South East.

But after waiting for about three hours in vain, the two started sharing notes on the reason why they were at the office.

And upon discovering that they were both at the office to meet Mpofu on the similar mission; to testify against Peter Mutharika in a case government wants to open that he was behind the controversial letter.

They were each promised K870, 000 if they succeeded in the plot.

After the two brainstormed on the negative side of the issue, the Prophet decided to call DPP’s Director of Women Patricia Kaliati and Daudi who was not available at the moment to brief them on the development.

When both Kaliati and Daudi were briefed on the issue, they took them to Police headquarters in Lilongwe to explain in details on where actually they were taking orders from.

“I decided to hand them over to police just to show that I’m clean not party to the plot, maybe others within,” said Daudi without clarifying. “Such people are tarnishing the image of our party, so we want police to investigate thoroughly on who sent them,” she said.

On her part, Kaliati said she was happy that she intercepted the plot. “Malawians should know that our living God is everywhere watching, and He will never leave His children alone. Let’s hope justice will prevail on this issue.”

While confirming of the development, police publicity secretary Rhoda Manjolo refused to shed more lights on the issue.

A whooping Mk2 million is on the offer to anyone who will successfully reveal the identity of the author of President Joyce Banda’s disputed resignation letter.
