JB support youth doing business

Malawi President Joyce Banda on Saturday handed over equipment worth thousands of kwacha to Chilomoni youths plying different businesses in the township.

The equipment that included grinders, jick-saws, drills, welding and tailoring machines among others were given to the youths during a development rally she conducted at Lumbira Full Primary School in Blantyre noting such equipment would enable them become efficient and effective as they enhance their skills.

Some of the businesses the Chilomoni youths are doing include carpentry, building, electrical and electronic services, mechanics, metal works and fabrications, tailoring and candle making.

The youths applauded President Banda saying the equipment would help them improve their efficiency and capacity to create employment for fellow youths.

The Malawi leader explained her donation:“These interventions are being taken to ensure that our youths are not left out in benefitting and contributing to development interventions that my government is putting in place.”

More interventions by government will include the importation of 9 million notebooks to aid learning in primary schools, the provision of electricity by 2014 in at least 27 trading centres spread across the country, the phasing out of low quality ARVs that cause bodily deformations to many who take them, and the plan to distribute cows to at least 1 million households.

Expounding on deals her government has cut with governments of South Korea and United Arab Emirates to import labour from Malawi, President Banda said conditions of the deal will include that the Malawi Government should open offices in those countries to look after the welfare of the Malawians who will find employment in those countries.

“You can witness the job opportunities our youths have got from outside Malawi in countries like Kuwait, Dubai and South Korea. Such job opportunities, if used responsibly, will help them develop new skills that will make Malawi as country and everyone else proud.

“I have talked to the Chief Immigration Officer as well as the Ministry of Labour to open offices in the countries our youths are to get job opportunities so that whosoever will meet any problems should be able to go to these offices and be assisted,” she said.

President Banda said she has “the welfare of our youths in the country at heart” saying she will strive  to make it possible that most of them find something to do.
