Fam targets K15m from Namibia game

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has introduced 11 new ticket selling points in its quest to raise K15 million from gate collections for Wednesday’s World Cup qualifying game between Flames and Namibia.

Fam Commercial Manager Casper Jangale said it was possible to realise the sum after opening 11 selling points in townships within the Blantyre City.

He said Fam came up with a new system following the problems they faced in Flames friendly match against Zimbabwe.

The game did not attract impressive patronage and it grossed about K6 million.

“We have opened these centres after consultations and we are convinced that it will work. Experience has taught us that most supporters always want to buy tickets at the stadium to avoid incurring additional transportation costs,” he said.

Jangale said through the current plan Fam would reach out to potential supporters that would like to watch the game.

“We have selected the townships which are regarded as soccer mad townships. It is a strategic move that would allow people living within the selected ticket selling points and surrounding areas to access the tickets,” he said.

The tickets are available at Mkango Lodge, Stimella Investments in Mbayani, Metro in Chilomoni, God is Good General Dealers in Nancholi, Mtonga B Shop in Chilobwe, Intosports at Chichiri Shopping Mall, Chowe Village Shop in Zingwangwa, Blantyre Market Shop number three, Home of kits at Limbe Market, Banja Grocery in Bangwe and Thompex Hardware at Ndirande market.

“The 11 new centres would complement the gap that was there,” Jangale said.

Fam has printed 17,000 tickets to cater for Kamuzu Stadium’s current seating capacity following the cordoning off of some stands for security reasons.

Fam announced that a seat in the comfort of the VIP enclosure during Namibia and Kenya games would cost K10,000 whereas a ticket for the covered stands has been pegged at K5,000. At MBC Stand, spectators will have to pay K2,500 and K1,000 Open Stands. – By Mphatso Malidadi
