Civil servants are planning to march to Parliament on Thursday to present a petition

Civil servants are planning to march to Parliament on Thursday to present a petition in which they are pressing the government to address huge remuneration disparities that exist between the mainstream civil service and various departments.

Civil Servants Trade Union (CSTU) President Eliah Kamphinda Banda confirmed the development in an interview on Monday saying the issue of harmonisation of remuneration packages of public servants can easily be resolved through the setting up of the Public Service Remuneration Board (PSRB).

He said the move is aimed at lobbying Parliament to debate and pass during the current meeting a bill that will help PSRB to commence its operations.

He further said the setting up of the board was a crucial step towards achieving ‘the much needed’ harmonisation of salaries and working environment in the public service.

Remuneration disparity in the public service has been one of the major issues that the CSTU has been pressuring the government to address over the past years. – Chikondi Juma
