DPP set to storm Lilongwe tomorrow despite resistance

Opposition Democratic Progressive Party is set to have whistle stop tours in the city of Lilongwe tomorrow as one way of canvassing votes for its 2014 Presidential candidate, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

According to the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Chimwemwe Mazabuka Chipungu, the parade is set to start at midday from Kalembo ground in Area 25 before touring various areas across the capital.

However, posting on his Facebook account this afternoon, the same Organizing Secretary has hinted that there are elements of resistance from the city authorities for the party to go on with its parade.

Labeling the government as undemocratic, Mazabuka Chipungu has written that the District Commissioner for Lilongwe has started playing late minute tricks with the party even though, according to him, the party has complied to all necessary procedures.

He has further indicated that come what may but the party is straight on continuing with its plans of touring Lilongwe come tomorrow.

It is yet to be seen if there will not be confrontation with law enforcers and bring back ugly scenarios that were witnessed in the same city of Lilongwe when DPP was in power and they tried to block Atupele Muluzi’s rally.
