Malawians to take to the streets on Thursday, October 10

The local Civil Society has arranged for Thursday, October 4, to be a Black Thursday – a day when Malawians from all walks of life are expected to join each other in the streets in protest to the massive looting and leaking of cash from the Capitol Hill that has reached scary levels.

According to one of the organizers of the demonstrations, John Kapito of the Consumer body CAMA, the demonstrations are set to happen in the country’s major cities of Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzuzu.

In the capital city where the looting has been much evidenced, demonstrators are expected to start from the Lilongwe Community ground whereas in Blantyre they are expected to start from the Kamuzu Upper stadium. In Mzuzu, the street protests are expected to start from Mzuzu stadium.

The information made available is that from the chosen centres, the protestors will march to the offices of the CEOs of the three cities while in an all black attire symbolising the death of their trust in the Joyce Banda led government.
