Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has disqualified Umodzi Party(UP) President Professor John Chisi as Presidential candidate in the forthcoming tripartite elections.
MEC Spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa said Chisi did not meet the required standards.
“Those details have been sent to him. He should be better placed to discuss them”, said Mwafulirwa.
When approached for comment on the issue Chisi confirmed that he was deterred from the contest.
” Yes, I have been communicated of the decision. I am the only one missing from the list. But i can’t make any comment now because we are seeking advice. We need to be mature on how we handle the issue”, he said.
MEC released the names of successful candidates to contest in May 20 polls yesterday and its only Professor John Chisi who is missing.
