Chileka International Airport on Sunday was indefinitely closed down due to hazardous potholes that have developed at the Airport.
The airport is said to have been closed for two weeks for the maintenance work to be carried at the site.
Malawi airlines spokesperson, Maganizo Mazeze said they received an advice from the Department of Civil Aviation of the suspension of flight at Chileka.
“The department of civil aviation informed the airline on Sunday morning that no flight should land or take off from Chileka airport for two weeks because of runway maintenance works.
“In this regard, all Malawians Airlines flights to all of its destinations will depart and terminate from Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe with immediate effect until the problem of Chileka Airport has been rectified”, said Mazeze.
Meanwhile, the department of civil aviation spokesperson said they have suspended the flights for safety reasons.
