NO NEGOTIATION ON LAKE BORDER ISSUE-JUMBE

As  the conflict over Lake Malawi border issue  refuses to die, New Labour Party (NLP) Presidential torchbearer Friday Jumbe in the forthcoming tripartite election has  said once voted into power he will resolve the issue.

He said this in a news conference yesterday where he also unveiled the party’s manifesto.

“Any attempt to negotiate our borders is a direct contravention of the Constitution. When we attained democracy in 1964, we demarcated territorial borders and they were accepted by the United Nations and that the country’s supreme laws recognize the country’s sovereignty.

“This means that the matter in which Tanzania is claiming part of our lake is not for negotiation because any attempt to do so infringes on the country’s territorial integrity because it gives leeway to the addition or subtraction to the country’s borders which the Constitution does not accept,” said Jumbe.

Jumbe also blamed donors on attaching aid to minority rights.
