Airtel Malawi appoints Schlittke as new MD

Airtel Malawi has appointed Heiko Schlittke as its new MD. Schlittke has been MD at Airtel Madagascar since 2010 and takes over from Saulos Chilima, who recently left Airtel to pursue interests outside the company.

Airtel Malawi Finance Director Amadoue Dina who was acting as Managing Director has been promoted to Managing Director for Airtel
Seychelles.

Speaking to the media in Lilongwe Schlittke applauded his predecessor for making Airtel Malawi penetrate the rural market.
“I would like to take it from where my predecessor stopped off and even penetrate and continue to work in that direction the unreached
population,” he said.

Schlittke said at the moment Airtel Malawi has 500 towers and in the next two to three years another 200 towers will be added and this will enable the company to reach closer to 100 percent of the country’s population.

Schlittke who joined Celtel B.V. in 2004 as Finance Director in Burkina Faso expressed his commitment in accelerating Airtel Malawi’s
business towards a broader base of services.

He said such services will include mobile banking and mobile data in an effort to provide affordable communication access to all Malawians
as well as placing more emphasis in the organization’s corporate social responsibility.

A press release from Airtel Malawi says Managing Director at Airtel Madagascar; he consistently delivered decent Revenue and Customer
Market share growth, bringing Airtel Madagascar from a challenger position to clear market leadership today on the Island.
Schlittke who has also enjoyed successful stints as Chief Finance Officer for Celtel Africa (now Airtel Africa) in DRC, Tanzania, Ghana
and Sierra Leone successfully transformed the operation of Airtel Madagascar to the Airtel Business Model while significantly building
efficiencies to make it one of the most profitable operations for Airtel Africa.

Schlittke holds an MBA in finance and accounting from the University of Liverpool, and a Certificate in Advanced Management from London
Business School. He also studied Politics and Economics at the Johann-Wolgang-Goethe University in Frankfurt.
