FDH BANK BRINGS BACK TOP OF THE CLASS

Former top of the class participants, who succeeded in academic and
professional education, have commended FDH bank for bankrolling the
state broadcaster in reinstating the program.

Top of the class, which was enjoying the airwaves at MBC from 1972 to
1998, was stopped for among other reasons lack of funding.

Speaking at the ceremony the Bank in conjunction with MBC organized
during the weekend when launching the program in Zomba one of Top of
the class alumnae Dr Mathews Mtumbuka expressed hope that the second
coming of the initiative will bring positive impact on basic
education.

The former St Patrick’s Seminary student who went to University of
Malawi’s Polytechnic where he got a Rhodes scholarship to study his
PHD in United Kingdom, is a current Director of Information Technology
at Airtel Malawi.

In his rhetoric speech, Mtumbuka said the program made him remain
focused as it gave competition and increase pressure to work hard.

Representing government were Dr Anjimire Mtila Oponyo and Dr Lucius
Kanyumba for Principle Secretary and Minister of Education
respectively who coincidentally were both the alumnae of the program.

Speaking in an interview with a local radio, FDH Bank’s managing director
Philip Madinga said his institution will continue sponsoring the
program on both Radio and TV for it values the need to uplift
education standards in the country.

At the launch, Zomba Catholic Secondary School defeated Blantyre
Secondary School 23 to 21 points.
The sponsorship is in excess of 25 million kwacha.
