United Democratic Front (UDF) Presidential hopeful in the controversial May 20 tripartite election , Atupele Muluzi has conceded defeat and has since congratulated the newly elected President Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
The young Muluzi said this in a statement made barely hours after Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Maxon Mbendera declared Mutharika as a winner.
Muluzi of Ung’ono Ung’ono fame trailed on third position with about 800,000 votes.
Meanwhile the newly elected President and his running mate Mr Saulosi Chilima will be sworn in today at Blantyre High Court in a ceremony which is expected to start at 10am.
