The country’s President Peter Mutharika yesterday made a rare confession that his newly wedded life, Getrude Hendrina Mutharika (nee Maseko), nearly broke his neck.
Speaking at a wedding reception ceremony held at Ndata farm in Thyolo district, Mutharika joked that he had vowed to never marry again 25 years ago after losing his wife to breast cancer. However, after seeing Maseko he could not manage to hold his tongue and he proposed.
“Actually I had to be cautioned by my friend (Goodall Gondwe) that I was turning around my neck too much (to take a look at her in Parliament) that I would break it,” said Mutharika sending the audience into stitches of laughter laughter.
At the ceremony, Mutharika introduced to the people in attendance his three children that included one from Maseko’s earlier wedding which ended in a divorce.
