MUTHARIKA’S TREASON CASE DROPPED

The office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has suspended treason case involving the newly elected President Professor Author Peter Mutharika and other eight Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) bigwigs.

This has been revealed in a statement made available to Face of Malawi signed by DPP Director Bruno Kalemba.

According to the country’s Constitution, Professor Mutharika- the principal suspect in the case- became immune to prosecution after assuming power in last  month’s election.

Mutharika committed treason case in 2012 during the death of his late brother Professor Bingu Wa Mutharika where he tried to bar the then Vice President Dr Joyce Banda from assuming the high office.

Other DPP bigwigs who were also in the treason case include; Goodall Edward Gondwe who is the Minister of Finance, Nicholas Dausi, Patricia Kaliati, Bright Nsaka, Jean Kalilani, Symon Vuwa Kaunda and Kondwani Nankhumwa.
