AMAONA KUCHEDA STAR TO PERFORM IN THE US

Amaona star Lawi, has been invited to perform in Washington DC, this month in a celebration of independence of the country on July 4.

Lawi whose real name is Francis Phiri is also a co-founder and producer at Lawi Multimedia Garage in Lilongwe. Lawi who is an Afro soul artist has been in the industry for quite some time now and has to his name popular tracks like ‘Amaona Kuchedwa’ and ‘Whistling song’.

Speaking in an interview Lawi confirmed of the development. “I am excited to have been invited by Malawians living in the country. As this will be a double celebration as in the US they celebrate their independence on the 4^th of July while here in Malawi it is on the 6^th,” he said.

Lawi who was expected to leave the country for the US yesterday via Ethiopian Airways, is expected have a number of shows in Washington DC.

“The communication I got so far is that I will be in Washington for two weeks where we will have a number of shows,” said Lawi. He also said that his invitation to perform in the US at the celebration was a great honour to Malawi music industry as a whole.

“This is not easy, firstly because it means that I have grown up and, for every grownup comes responsibility. While on the other hand it shows that Malawi music has reached great heights of the world, and that it’s possible for every musician here to take their work that far,” he said.
