Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Parliamentarian for Lilongwe City South East Mr. Bentry Namasasu has obtained an injunction restraining Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) from conducting vote-count.
MEC decided to do vote re-count following an order granted by the High Court in a case in which Malawi Congress Party (MCP) parliamentary candidate, Mr Ulemu Msungama is challenging results for the constituency in which Democratic Progressive Party candidate won the election.
MEC Chief Elections Officer Willie Kalonga confirmed of the development in an interview.
In his speech, Kalonga said the body is currently waiting an advice from the court on what to do as it was geared to conduct vote recount for the Constituency.
Vote recount was scheduled to start at 8:30am at MEC warehouses located at Central Government Stores building, off-Paul Kagame Highway in Lilongwe.
