FOUR PEOPLE REPORTED DEAD AFTER A CANOE CAPSIZED IN NSANJE

Four people are feared dead after a canoe they were traveling in capsized at Kastiyano dock in the Shire River in Nsanje, Tuesday morning

Police say the people involved in the incident were on their way home from Mozambique where they went for farming.

“The canoe which had 11 passengers on board capsized after it was hit by a hippo in the middle of the river close to Kastiyano dock. This made the canoe to capsize,” said the police sources.

The law enforcers said four people including three women and a child drowned while the other seven survived.

“Some well-wishers rescued some of the passengers after the incident,” said the source.
