ZOMBA HAS NEW MAYOR

Councillors and Members of Parliament for Zomba have elected a 30-year-old Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Ward Councillor for Zomba Central Joan Ntaja as new Mayor.

Ntaja outclassed former ruling People’s Party (PP) Councillor Christopher Jana with 6 votes against 3.

Zomba Municipal Council is the second Council to elect a women on the position of Mayor after Kasungu Municipal who elected Ireen Ruth Katola of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) on the position last week.

Meanwhile David Maunde of United Democratic Front (UDF) has been elected as deputy Mayor.
