ELECTION OF BLANTYRE CITY MAYOR CANCELLED; DPP SUPPORTERS ATTACK POLICE

Following the fracas that erupted at Blantyre Civic officers during the election of Blantyre City Mayor today,reports reaching Face of Malawi indicates that the elections have been indefinitely called off.

According to officials, the election have been called off due to the unruly behaviour shown by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters who started fighting security personnel as they demand that Louis Ngalande be included on list of contestants.

Ngalande pulled out of the race yesterday without giving a reason for his decision.

Nominees for the position are Noel Chalamanda, George Chipwete and Getrude Chirambo.

Meanwhile it is not yet known as to when the election of Blantyre City Mayor will be held.
