KAPHALE DOUBT LUTEPO’s CLAIMS

It Never rain but pours on one of the well known Businessman, Oswald Lutepo, the prime suspect in the plundering of public funds at Capitol Hill dubbed Cashgate Scandal by the media.

The newly appointed Attorney General (AG) in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Kalekeni Kaphale has said he doubt the claims made by Businessman Oswald Lutepo against prosecuting authorities.

Lutepo wrote Attorney General’s office claiming that Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Bruno Kalemba, former Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Fahadi Assani and Kamudoni Nyasulu be investigated because of what he called professional misconduct and abuse of office where they forced him to write witness and caution statements to implicate private practice lawyers Ralph Kasambara and Wapona Kita in the Cashgate cases.

In an interview with one of the Local daily paper [National newspaper] Kaphale said: “When the claims were made, I wrote to the people [Kalemba and Nyasulu] to explain their part. I looked into the claims and did some investigations and found that there was no substance in what he [Lutepo] was saying.

“Since we do not know where he lives, we have written to him and sent the response by post. He should be getting it any time soon. Meanwhile, the case is still continuing, including the recent one on perjury.”

He said Lutepo needs to prove this because what he claims to have lied under oath was done voluntarily and the statements were his.

When approached for comment, Lutepo said he is yet to receive the letter.

Lutepo who was arrested on Sunday in Kasungu for Perjury is now out on bail.
