PARLIAMENT TRASHES MPs 100 PERCENT PAY INCREASE

Malawi National Assembly has distanced itself from media reports that Salaries and benefits for Members of Parliament has been raised by 100 percent.

Reports carried from various daily papers in the country indicated that salaries for Members of Parliament have been raised from MK700,000 to MK1.4 million while the loan facility has also been raised from MK10 Million to MK24 million.

In his response, Clerk of Parliament Roosevelt Gondwe blasted the report as untrue, saying if they will be any increase citizens will know.

“It is not true that there has been salary increment,” said Gondwe.

Effort to talk to Leader of Government in Parliament Mr Francis Katsaila proved futile as his mobile phone could not be reached.

The news of the increase of Salaries of Parliamentarians by 100 percent received condemnation from all stakeholders who described as ‘selfish’.
