Lawyer Ralph Kasambara, who has been implicated in the shooting of Mphwiyo has alleged that the car the former budget director Paul Mphwiyo was driving on the day of his shooting was a stolen one from outside Malawi as it does not exist in the records of the road traffic directorate.
The lawyer made this remark in court on Thursday during cross-examination.
The gun-shoot survivor earlier testified that the Toyota Fortuner he was in on the day of the shooting was the first time he had drove it, adding that perhaps that was the reason his guard delayed in opening the gate.
However Kasambara refuted Mphwiyo’s statement alleging that Mphwiyo had used the car before.
Kasambara said the car, registration number ZA 7171, was the same Mphwiyo used one day when he went to collect unspecified money at Ufulu Garden Lodge in Lilongwe from cashgate suspect Osward Lutepo who was in the company of Pika Manondo another suspect in the shooting.
