PARLIAMENTARIANS NEED TO BE EDUCATED TO HAVE IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR PARLIAMENTARY DUTIES- DEPUTY SPEAKER

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Esther Mcheka Chilenje-Nkhoma has said Members of Parliament need to be educated to have in-depth knowledge of their parliamentary duties to enable them work better during their term of office.

Chilenje-Nkhoma said this during the opening of a pilot Parliamentary Training Program for members of parliament in Lilongwe.

In her speech, Nkhoma said the program is an important milestone in the capacity building of parliamentarians especially those that are in the house for the first time.

30 participants of the training are chairpersons and members of Public Appointments, Public Accounts, Budget and Legal Affairs Parliamentary Committees.

The training which will run for two weeks is being conducted with funding from the United Nations Development Program UNDP.
