A standard 5 pupil of Mfula Junior Primary School in Balaka district is reported dead after committing suicide by hanging on Monday August 25.
Balaka police spokesperson Sub-Inspector Joseph Sauka confirmed of the development and identified the deceased as John White, 14.
According to the police, mother of the deceased, White was left home alone after she went to the river to wash clothes and when his elder brother came back home at around 1700 hours, he found the deceased hanging dead .
Post-mortem conducted at Balaka District Hospital revealed that the deceased died due to suffocation after strangulation.
White hails from Khazibeti Village in the area of Senior Chief Nsamala in the district.
