FLAMES U-20 INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY AGAINST LESOTHO CANCELLED

Malawi flames Under-20 team International friendly match against Lesontho scheduled for Saturday August 9 2014 at Kamuzu Stadium has been called off.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to the media which FaceofMalawi have in possession.

According to the statement, the friendly match has been called off because Lesotho has failed to travel to the country for the game due to failure by Lesotho government to source funds for the team.

“Football Association of Malawi would like to announce that the international friendly match between Malawi Under 20 and Lesotho Under 20 which was scheduled for Saturday 9th August 2014 has been cancelled. This is because Lesotho will not be able to travel to Blantyre due to financial problems as the Lesotho government has not released funds for the team to travel.

” The Malawi Under 20 will continue playing Super League sides as they prepare for the 2015 CAF Youth Championship third round qualifier against Zambia with the first leg set for 16th August 2014 at the Kamuzu Stadium”, reads the statement in part.

In a related development FAM has also released a list of players to go into 1st camp training in preparation for this year’s AU SC Region 5 Youth Games to be held in Zimbabwe in December.

The Camp details are as follows:
Dates: 11th – 20th August, 2014
Venue: Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Thyolo.
All players must report at the Malawi National Council of Sports head… office in Blantyre on Sunday, 10th August by noon.
