THREE PEOPLE INJURED DURING CARLSBERG CUP FINAL

Three people were reported injured and rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital on Sunday during the Carlsberg Cup finals between Big Bullets FC and Zomba United after part of the Kamuzu Stadium collapsed.

The game which ended 2-0 in favour of Bullets saw a huge turnout surpassing the recommended capacity of FIFA which is about 17,000.

Fans ended up occupying restricted areas of the pitch despite pleas from the master of ceremonies Frank Kandu that they should evacuate the stands for safety reasons.

Speaking in an interview with the press, Stadium manager Charles Mhango expressed his sadness over the development and blamed Football Association of Malawi (FAM) for exceeding the capacity.

Although that was the case, no incident of violence was reported and the game raised about K15 million.
