Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter Nyamilandu Manda has confirmed the termination of contracts of Malawi Under-20 national team coaches-Ernest Mtawali and Gerald Phiri.

The development comes barely a week after the U-20 national team was shown matching orders from African Youth Championship.

Manda disclosed this in an interview with one of the local daily paper in the country [Nation Newspaper].

In his speech, Manda said if need arises they can always call them back.

“Their assignment has been completed. If Cosafa Under-20 is confirmed—we can always make plans; otherwise, Cosafa is still looking for sponsorship. We are talking about things which are confirmed”, said Manda.

He said now the body’s eyes on the Under-17 which is scheduled to participate in Zone XI.

When asked for comment on the matter, Mtawali denied to comment.

The Under 20 national team was booted out of the competition by Zambia.
