Blantyre Water Board (BWB)employees on Tuesday staged a strike demanding the removal of the Chief executive Andrew Thawe.

The workers blocked the entrance to the board’s head office while chanting ‘Achoke! Achoke!

Speaking in an interview, Water Employees Trade Union of Malawi President James Monjeza said the workers decided to hold the demonstrations because they are not happy with the presence of Thawe.

He also disclosed that the demonstrations were held to force the government to swiftly act on the petition they presented to government.

FaceofMalawi’s effort to talk to Thawe on the matter proved futile as he could not pick up his mobile phone.
This is the second sit-in by BWB staff in a space of two weeks.
