Malawi Police Service Inspector General (IG) Loti Dzonzi has promoted two Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) officers who recovered the stolen money amounting K0.5 billion for Mzuzu Standard Bank early last week.

The development comes barely days after President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika made the directive to promote the officers at a rally held at Masintha ground in Lilongwe over the Weekend.

“I have promoted number 1856 Sergeant Kathaza Banda to the rank of sub inspector effective from 7 September, 2014. However, I will be processing the promotion of A5830 Sub Inspector Kennan Vundo with the police service commission that is responsible for promoting senior officers into senior ranks,” Dzonzi said.

He said it is only the police service commission which is legally mandated to promote senior police officers hence he has only promoted Banda of Mzuzu Police Service.

Dzonzi also said: “I will reward Vundo with K175, 000 while Banda will walk away with K125, 000 by Friday this week for the job well done”.

He further urged law enforcers in the country to continue working very hard with dedication to provide safety and security to the nation.
