Reports reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that Blantyre Water Board (BWB) employees have ended their sit-in following the news that the management have sent to leave its Chief Executive Andrew Thawe.
The Employees went on strike a week ago pressurizing the management to immediately remove Thawe, accusing him of making unilateral dismissals, favouring some workers and failure to protect the welfare of the workers.
In a letter dated September 16, 2014 signed by controller of statutory corporations Zanga Chikhosi addressed to the workers reads in part:
“I write to further clarify that the chief executive has been sent on leave to pave the way for investigations. In the meantime, the director of finance and administration, who is the most senior among the directors, will act as the care-taker of Blantyre Water Board”.
Water Employees Trade Union of Malawi general secretary Tony Chiphwanya confirmed of the news and said workers have now resumed their work.
However, Chiphwanya was quick to say that the union is waiting for another official communication from government, confirming that Thawe has received his copy of the letter.
