Businessman Oswald Lutepo, a prime suspect in the plundering of public funds dubbed cashgate scandal has been arrested and taken to the High Court in Lilongwe.
According to information gathered by FaceofMalawi, Lutepo has been arrested and charged with murder attempt of former budget director Paul Mphwiyo.
His lawyer Oswald Mtupila confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the local media house in the country [ZBS].
“I can confirm that my client is under arrest for the attempted murder of Paul Mphwiyo”, he said.
Earlier in the morning, Lutepo was summoned to the national police headquarters at area 30 where he was interrogated and informed of the state decision to take him to court on the new charge.
Lutepo was included in the murder attempt Mphwiyo this week on Monday by the state prosecutor and the defence did not dispute the application.
