CHINA, ZAMBIA NEW ENVOYS IN THE COUNTRY

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on Wednesday received letters of credence from representatives of China and Zambia at ceremony held at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

In a closed door meeting with Mutharika, the two disclosed plans to work with the Government of Malawi in enhancing mutual development between the respective countries.

This was brought to light on Wednesday by Zambia’s High Commissioner to Malawi, Salome Mwansa Mwananshiku, and the Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Zhang Qingyang.

After submitting her letter in the morning, Mwansa Mwananshiku disclosed that during the behind-closed-door talks she had with President Mutharika, they had discussed how best the two countries could take advantage of their areas of common interest to enhance mutual development.

She said, “We considered infrastructure development as one way of how people can achieve business success.”

She further revealed that there were also plans to consider developing roads for easier inter-country transportation of agricultural produce.

Later during the day, Qingyang had also granted an interview where he said that China was ready to continue offering support to Malawi especially in the areas of education and health.

“It’s been six years ever since Malawi and China started to enjoy diplomatic ties and the two countries have enjoyed a good relationship ever since, and they have worked together on various development projects,” said the Chinese Ambassador who added that it was on the basis of this good relationship that his government was ready to continue with the support.

After the submission of the letters, and the subsequent acceptance of the letters by the President, the two officially became their countries’ representatives to Malawi.
