NENO RESIDENTS FURIOUS WITH GOVT FOR FAILING TO ALLOCATE FUNDS IN THIS YEAR’S BUDGET TO CONSTRUCT TARMAC ROAD

Concerned citizens in Neno are outraged with the government’s failure to allocate funds, in this year’s national budget, for the construction of a tarmac road in the district.

The citizens, who have organized themselves as, Neno Stakeholders Committee with support from the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP), are now strategizing on the next move.

They have since drawn a plan of action on how they can lobby the government for the project in the next financial year.

Last year, the group petitioned the government to consider the construction of the road, which they feel is fundamental to the development of the district, which has had no tarmac road ever.

Chairperson of the committee, who is also Director of Neno Women’s Forum, Agnes Raphael, told the Malawi News Agency that the government should provide equal development opportunities.

CCJP Project Officer, Peter Muyaya, advised the people of Neno to unite and work with the District Council to achieve their will.

The citizens plan to hold a series of demonstrations in and out of the district should their efforts to lobby for the road does not receive good response.
