4 ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO LL AREA 47 MURDER CASE

Police in Lilongwe have in their custody four people suspected to have hacked late Richard Chinula during a robbery at his Area 47 home in August, leaving the victim with deep cuts from which he died a week later.

The story goes that the suspected robbers invaded Chinula’s house during the evening of August 20 and stole assorted items apart from leaving him in a pool of blood, an incident that raised concerns among residents who bemoaned security lapses in the capital city.

FaceofMalawi speaking to Lilongwe Police spokesperson, Kingsley Dandaula, in an interview disclosed that “well-wishers tipped the law enforcers” about a group of suspected young men who mostly hang around sand mines near African Bible College (ABC) in the city.

“Our officers raided the place and we apprehended the four youngsters who after interrogations admitted to have committed the robbery and hacked Chinula with an axe,” said Dandaula.

The suspects further revealed other names of the other suspected robbers who had taken part in the crime, adding that police investigations to apprehend the remaining robbers are currently underway, revealed the spokesperson.

Police have identified the suspects they have apprehended as 24-year-old Edward Majawa from Kabudula Village, Traditional Authority Kabududula in Lilongwe; 22-year-old Lyson Kapinda from Ntali Village, Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe; 24-year-old Yusuf Ali from Mayani Village, Traditional Authority Thambala in Dedza and 22-year-old Mabvuto Mthinda from Mitepela Village, Traditional Authority Nsabwe in Thyolo.
