CASHGATE KEY SUSPECT OSWALD LUTEPO SAYS “HE FEELS LIKE HIS BEING HUNTED”

Cashgate key suspect Oswald Lutepo says he is perturbed by latest developments in the courts where he has now been bundled along suspects in the case on the alleged assassination conspiracy of former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo.

FOM sourced that Lutepo told Zodiak “in the end all Glory will go to God”.Lutepo says he suspects that there is a conspiracy against him personally that appears to want to cast him in a negative light as a “thief and a murderer” by people he does not understand “want what”.

Lutepo further exclaimed that he now believes that his apparent pursuers would like to embarrass him “at whatever cost” and “probably stand in the way of whatever I would like to do in future.

“It appears the intention is that everyone should not believe anything Lutepo says. It seems they want everyone to look at Lutepo as a thief and a murder. That way, nobody believes anything that Lutepo says. But we will come out of this and the name of God will be Glorified,” he said.

He says he now lives in fear for his own life.

Lutepo was speaking in an interview Sunday morning in view of the latest development where the state successfully got him included in the case in which already former justice minister Ralph Kasambara and four others are in the dock before Judge Dr. Michael Mtambo.

Thursday morning, Lutepo was summoned to the national police headquarters at area 30 where he was interrogated and informed of the state decision to take him to court on the new charge.

Lutepo himself confirmed of the development in a telephone interview while at area 30 saying while he suspected that the summon was in relation to the case on the alleged attempted assassination of former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo, he was yet to be told that officially.

“I suspect that summon is in relation to what happened in the courts recently,” said Lutepo and minutes later he was indeed whisked away to the Lilongwe High Court.

Later, he was taken to court for committal on the fresh charge of conspiracy to murder.

The development follows revelations by one of the suspects, Charles Chalunda who hinted in his statement that he was paid by Lutepo to carry out the assassination of Mphwiyo.

Lutepo is also the key suspect in the case in which billions of taxpayers’ money were siphoned out of government coffers which has been code named Cashgate.

The shock additional suspect was brought in court last week by state lawyers and accepted by judge Mtambo who actually refused to make a secrete of the twist on the basis of his conviction that the matter before him is undisputedly on of public interest.
Even when the state tried to make the matter private by requesting that an application demanding the inclusion of Lutepo as a murder suspect be held in chambers Mtambo stood his ground.
The matter returns in judge Mtambo’s court on November 12, 2014 for continuation of trial.
