CHIEF IMMIGRATION OFFICER DISMISSES CLAIMS OF PASSPORT FEE HIKE

The country’s Department of Immigration has finally parried away rumours of passport fees hike that were circulating all over including on social networks.

Recently, the public was shocked to hear what was believed to be true that a fee for passport has been hiked to MK 45, 000 and MK 80, 000.

FaceofMalawi speaking to Chief Immigration Officer, Hudson Mankwala dismissed the claims saying people are still paying the same amounts as before in all paying centres across the country.

“We also got those rumours but they are mere speculations. People are still using the same amounts to pay for different kinds of passports”, said Mankwala.

Mankwala also pointed out that they haven’t got any communication from responsible authorities on hiking fees.

Following the speculations, there were congestions in some public offices including the Immigration and Road Traffic in Blantyre and Lilongwe.

Visit to the offices where it was said that hiked fee will be effective from 1st October has established that prices for the government services remain the same. However, people are still storming the offices in large numbers.
