Irish President Michael Higgins and his wife Sabina today visited Saopa Mpeni village in Salima where they inspected some of the projects and programmes that are sponsored by Irish Aid.
Higgins was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Dr. George Chaponda, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. Allan Chiyembekeza and Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Hon. Patricia Kaliati among other top government officials.
Higgins yesterday evening held talks with President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika at State House in Lilongwe on the issues affecting the two nations and he promised to support the country through different ways.
On his part, Mutharika said he was delighted with Higgins’s visit and he expressed hope that Malawi will lean more from him.
The Irish President will be in the country for three days.
