GOVT TO INTRODUCE NEW DRIVING LICENCE FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VEHICLES

Date:

Reports reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that the government through the Department of Road Traffic is planning to introduce special driving licence for automatic transmission vehicles come January next year.

The development comes barely weeks after the department of Immigration hiked fees for passports.

According to a circular memo, the certified drivers will only be allowed to drive automatic transmission vehicles.

The memo stressed that unless one applies for this new licence will not be allowed to drive automatic transmission car and if found shall pay a fine of MK 7, 000 on the spot.

Commenting on the matter, an official from Road Traffic said he is not aware of the development and asked for more time.

Meanwhile all people who need to have a licence certified to drive both manual and automatic cars will have to cough out MK 50, 000.
