Reports reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Youth Cadets armed with Panga knives on Thursday afternoon disrupted Opposition People’s Party (PP) rally held in the Northern District of Chitipa.
The rally was organised by the Party’s northern region chairman Rev Christopher Mzomera Ngwira, the man who championed the proposal of Federal System of Government.
According to one of the sources who witness the violence said the DPP cadets deliberately provoked the PP supporters who immediately sought to eject them from the meeting but attracted the wrath of the ruling party youth who started a fight.
The cadets overpowered the Police Officers who were hired to provide security at the meeting.
Although this was the case, Police managed to arrest three DPP officials suspected to have been in the for front in disrupting the rally.
Chitipa Police Spokesperson Solemn Chunga confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the Press but denied to give more details on the matter.
Inside sources disclosed to FOM that one the people arrested is DPPâ€™s Regional Committee member for the North Philemon Mtambo.
Speaking in an interview with one the daily papers in the country, Ngwira described the conduct of DPP cadets as worrisome.
DPP cadets made headlines during Peter Mutharika’s late brother President Professor Bingu Wa Mutharika’s rain two years ago, terrorizing people in the country who were not in good terms with the Party.
