Kasungu Magistrate Court has sentenced a Police Officer and three co-accused to 10 years for allegedly robbing a farmers club in Kasungu of 1.7 Million Kwacha at a gun point.
Regional Prosecutions Officer, Assistant Commisioner Levi Mangani told the court that Police arrested six suspects including two Police officers namely Sergent Lameck Chilima and Sub Inspector Peter Mkhuche of state house on the grounds that the robbed a group of farmers.
The court head that in May last year a group of farmers went to a bank to withdraw money realized from sales of their produce.
But after withdrawing the money a group of armed thugs attacked them and went away with money amounting to MK1.7 million.
After Police investigations it was revealed that the Police Officers and five other suspects were involved in the robbery and were all arrested.
During the hearing, First Grade Magistrate Damiano Banda found four of the six accused guilty and sentenced them to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour.
The four are Sergent Lameck Chilima, 35; Musa Asabi, 31; Samuel Phiri,34 and Joseph Gandifele.
Meanwhile Magistrate Banda acquited Sub Inspector Peter Mkhuche and Albeto Banda saying the state failed to prove their involvement in the case.
