The issue of security lapse in the country has gotten some concerned citizen worried as 11 Burundians immigrants have been arrested in Mzimba for illegal entry.

The development comes just barely a week after police in the same district apprehended 39 Ethiopian immigrants for the same offense.

Mzimba Police Public Relations Officer Constable Gabriel Chiona confirming the development to FaceofMalawi said the exercise was made possible after receiving a tip from well-wishers.

Constable Chiona said the 11 Burundians boarded Future Tours Bus registration Number BLK4005 travelling from Mzuzu to Lilongwe with other passengers.

“Upon reaching Jenda road block, our police officers conducted the search and arrested them.” Said Chiona.

Chiona further disclosed that the bus owners denied any link with the immigrants during interrogation.

“One of the bus officials denied any connection with these people and said they were treating them as any other passenger without actually identifying their nationality.” explained Chiona.

So far the increased incidents of theft, albino killings and fear of the spread of diseases such Ebola have raised an alarm amongst the citizens.

Meanwhile the 11 illegal immigrants have been referred to Mzuzu immigration offices for further diagnosis.
