As one way of encouraging hardworking spirit among learners in the country,Double Knowledge Learning Centre, a privately owned School on Friday March 13, 2015 launched a Speech Day and House Programmes in the commercial capital Blantyre(Bangwe).
A Speech Day and House Programmes is an initiative that is aimed at encouraging learners at the School to be communicating in English in every activity that happens at the premise and the initiative is being Championed by the School”s Director Mr. Earnest Nakari.
Speaking after the launch, Nakari said the initiative will help the students to perform better in their studies at the School as well as in their final examinations.
“Sometimes students perform poorly in their final examinations(Malawi School certificate of Education and Junior Certificate of Examination) just because they do not know how to express themselves in a good English both in writing as well as in speaking.
“Due to this fact, the school thought it wise to come up with an initiative that will help the learners to improve their fluency in English hence the launch of the Speech Day and House Programmmes today,” said Nakari.
He added: “Through this initiative, students will be participating in various activities such as Debates, Quiz competition and Essay writing and best students will be awarded various prizes at the end of each and every term. As am speaking to you the initiate is already in practice.”
According to Nakari, in House programmes, the students at the school are divided into three groups and each group is guided by a teacher who is called a father. These groups are St. Peters, St.Johns and St. Mary”s.
“From these groups its where we choose students to participate in the said activities and its rotational,” explained Nakari.
On his part,Basiano Bauleni who represented Member of Parliament and Ward Councilor for the area and was the guest of hounor at the function hailed the school for coming up with the initiative.
He said the initiative is in line with the vision of the Democratic Progressive Party administration under President Professor Arthur Peter Muthatika which is to uplift the quality of education in the country.
During the launch, the school held a Candle light ceremony marking the start of the campaign at the school that is endless and ceremony was held by fathers and and mothers of the said groups.
The school also presented various awards to the students and one of the notable awards was presented to best Essay writers. The awards went to Caleb Nkuna Form 3 and Modester Biziwiki Form 1.
Speaking after receiving the ward, Nkuna who dreams of becoming a lawyer said he was very happy for the recognition and he said this is just the beginning.Nkuna also urged the learners at the school to be serious in their studies.
The whole event was spiced up by various activities such as dramas,poems and songs.
