Police in the commercial capital Blantyre have recovered a vehicle belonging to Mr. Hassim Omar which was stolen last week at Blantyre mosque by unknown carjackers.

The development comes barely a week after Malawi Police in collaboration with Mozambican Police also recovered a vehicle belonging to Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture Kondwani Nankhumwa in Mozambique.

Blantyre Police Public Relations Officer Elizabeth Divala confirmed of the development in an interview with the Press.

Divala said the vehicle, Toyota registration number BS 7024 was recovered at Chingeni road block on Thursday.

“We received a report from Mr. Omar on 3rd March that his car has been stolen by unknown thugs and we immediately alerted Officers in all road blocks to track down the vehicle. Fortunately the vehicle was recovered Yesterday at Chingeni,” said Divala.

Divala also revealed that one suspect identified as Innocent Mlenga aged 31 has been arrested in connection with the stolen vehicle.

Mlenga, who hails from Namiwa village, Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo will appear in court soon, said Divala.
