The Office of the Director of public Assets Declaration has clarified on the recent declared assets by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, saying the President erred when he first declared his net worth.

Christopher Tukula said this in an interview with one of the privately owned radio [Zodiak Broadcasting Station].

Tukula said the information hovering around which is contained in Mutharika’s declaration that he is having $8.2 million in his account in United States of America is not Asscorrect.

“His representatives came to our offices to make a correction of the error after the media earlier announced the information we gave them that he had $8.2 million in one of his bank accounts in the United States of America,” he said.

“The president claims the 8 we saw is a dollar sign ($) so may be it is the handwriting of whosoever was writing the declarations,” Tukula was quoted as saying.

Tukula further said that his office has since corrected the claimed error and currently the President has $2 million in his USA account not $8.2 million.

Mutharika’s wealth which is pegged at MK4.4 billion has attracted countrywide condemnation, accusing him of exaggerating his worth.
