Former President and opposition People’s Party (PP) President Dr. Joyce Banda on Sunday met some of her Party’s bigwigs in South Africa.

PP Spokesperson Ken Msonda confirmed of the meeting in an interview with the Press but denied to disclose the agenda of the meeting, saying the Party will issue a statement on the meeting.

Apart from Msonda, Banda also met PP Vice President for the Southern Region who is acting on her behalf Brown Mpinganjira, Uladi Mussa, PP Vice President for Central Region, Harry Mkandawire, and PP Vice President for the Northern Region.

The meeting has attracted mixed reactions from various stakeholders in the country who are questioning the motive behind the meeting and others have accused Banda of fearing arrest relating to the plundering of Public funds at Capitol Hill dubbed Cashgate.

Banda left the country just after being booted out of high office by the current President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

Late last Year, Oswald Lutepo, the prime suspect in the Plundering of public Funds through a local radio implicated Banda into Cashgate.

Lutepo said Banda was the main beneficial in the scam and that his Company was just used.

Reacting to the news, Msonda trashed the claims and accused Mutharika of conniving with Lutepo to implicate Banda in the scandal.

The development sparked verbal war between the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and PP as DPP reacted harshly on the matter.

Meanwhile it is not yet known as to when Banda will return home.
