President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has extended his best regards and warm wishes to the entire Muslim community in Malawi at the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadhan, a sacred period of fasting and spiritual reflection in Islamic faith.
Mutharika has said this in a statement released to the press from the Ministry of Information, Tourism and Culture signed by Kondwani Nankhumwa who is also government spokesperson.
âHis Excellency takes this opportunity to call upon all Malawians to join our brothers and sisters as they celebrate the foundation of their faith to reflect on the universal values that Ramadhan stands for in order to foster national development.
âIt is His Excellency”s sincere prayer that this Holy Month will help in expanding the circle of social values, among them peace, love, harmony, happiness, charity, integrity and patriotism in our lives,â reads in part the statement.
Added the statement: âIt is his wish that the blessings of Allah shower on all of us.â
Muslims across the country started fasting on Thursday 18, 2015 and it will take them up to July 17.
Ramadan is observed in the ninth month of the Muslim year, during which strict fasting is observed in daylight hours.
