MK92 BILLION CASHGATE REPORT REFERRED TO PARLIAMENT ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE

Malawians hope of having an access to the MK92 billion cashgate reports starting from today has been hampered as the Speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya has referred the report to the Parliament Accounts Committee (PAC) for scrutiny.

The development comes barely hours after the Minister of Finance and Economic development Goodall Gondwe told the house that he will present the report in the house today.

Making the announcement in the August House today, Msowoya said the report will not be presented today as earlier indicated by the Minister of Finance, saying the report has been referred to PAC for scrutiny.

Msowoya said lawmakers will access the document which has been described as a data analysis document through PAC.

The delay in releasing the reports by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has attracted mixed reacting from the general public with opposition Political Parties describing the recent regime as hypocritical.

Rumours circulating on the social media also indicated that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and DPP bigwigs are also implicated in the report.

Reacting to these rumours, Director of the National Audit Office Stephenson Kamphatsa trashed these claims, saying the data analysis results are only the first step towards full forensic investigations and does not in any way mention anyone let alone implicating them.
